The imposing Villa Teja near Recanati, built by the Leopardi family (of which the poet Giacomo Leopoardi is its most famous member), is a quintessential example of a mid 19th century Villa with both farming and residential functions. The large ground floor rooms, where the farm machinery would have been housed, and the reception rooms and bedrooms on the upper floors are a testimony to the traditional ties noble families had to local agriculture from which they drew their wealth. Today, the villa, which still has that idyllic, Italian atmosphere, will make a magnificent family home or boutique hotel.
The ground floor is divided in two by a corridor, big enough for a carriage and horses to pass through, running the entire length of the building and, on either side, are series of interconnecting high, vaulted rooms with brick floors.
